Different drug treatment programs are applied in mens rehab in California

Most of the drug rehabilitation centers apply different treatment methods to treat addicts. This is done to treat different types of drug addiction effectively. However the basic objective of every treatment program is the same. A treatment program seeks to enable an addict to kick the habit and lead a normal life. Therefore different therapies are applied depending on the addiction of a patient. Usually drug treatment programs consist of medications as well as therapies which help to alter the present behavior of an addict. The most common therapy that is applied is behavioral therapy.

The most common problem that is encountered by addicts is getting over their withdrawal symptoms. During treatment it is the withdrawal symptoms of a patient that gives a lot of problem. Therefore drug treatment programs apply special medications for this purpose. These medications help to suppress withdrawal symptoms. Though there is a specific time period for recovery yet some patients have to continue with treatment for an extended period of time. Usually in most cases it takes three to six months to recover from drug addiction. According to men’s rehab in California patients who have undergone at least six months of intensive treatment have shown good results.

All treatment programs are designed specifically to enable an addict to get over his or her drug addiction problem as early as possible. Usually two methods are applied. One is the short term method and the other is the long term and everywhere you go you will notice that rehab centers practice these two methods. Patients who are advised to choose the short term method (depending on their level of addiction) have to undergo three basic therapies-residential, medication and outpatient.

Certain addicts like those who are addicted to heroin are advised to opt for the long term therapy when they check into men’s rehab in California. For heroin addicts this is the most common treatment. The treatment method includes administration of either a synthetic opiate or methadone oral dose. The level of addiction determines the dosage which helps to neutralize the effects of the drug (in this case heroin). Stability can be achieved after a period of time provided the patient has received appropriate treatment. However consistent efforts must be made to maintain this stability.

Once stability is achieved through medications the next step is to provide therapeutic treatment which is provided through various programs. Most of the therapies have strict guidelines and an addict must adhere to those if he really wants to come clean off drugs.
